Content ROI Calculator
Estimate the financial return from content marketing using direct costs, attributed revenue or modeled customers, and compare current performance with a target.
Estimate the financial return from a piece of content, campaign or recurring content program. Enter content costs and the leads, customers or revenue you attribute to that content. Results depend on attribution assumptions. Use the same currency and measurement period for all monetary inputs. Dollar signs are generic; currencies are not converted. Calculations run locally; inputs are not saved or sent to a server.
Estimate the return from your content.
Example: a $1,500 content campaign
With $1,000 production cost, $500 promotion cost, $0 other costs and $5,000 attributed revenue at 70% gross margin, attributed gross profit is $3,500. Net gross profit contribution is $2,000 and Content ROI is 133.33%.
About this calculator
Understanding content ROI
Content ROI compares the gross profit attributed to content with the direct cost of producing and promoting that content.
- Content attribution is rarely exact. Organic search, brand awareness, assisted conversions and long sales cycles can make content value difficult to isolate.
- This calculator uses the attribution assumptions you enter. It does not prove that the content caused the modeled revenue.
Measurement periods and scenario averages
Use costs and revenue from the same measurement period. In lead mode, customers and revenue are modeled from the leads and conversion assumptions entered.
- Average over selected value period means attributed revenue or gross profit divided by the selected number of months. It does not mean revenue actually occurs evenly over time.
- Annualized improvements multiply the modeled monthly change by 12. They are not forecasts or guaranteed returns.
- Zero-denominator results show N/A. Positive or negative ROI is not a universal rating of content quality.
Frequently asked questions
Does the calculator prove that content caused the revenue?
No. It calculates from the attribution assumptions you supply. Assisted conversions, organic search, brand awareness and long sales cycles can make attribution uncertain.
What if content cost or modeled leads are zero?
The calculator keeps valid revenue and profit results. Ratios with a zero denominator, including ROI or cost per lead, show N/A instead of a division-by-zero result.
Can I model lower target performance?
Yes. A lower target is allowed, and negative revenue and gross-profit improvements remain visible.
