Email List Growth Projector
Model how subscriber acquisition and unsubscribe rates may compound month by month, compare current and target scenarios, and estimate optional annual subscriber value.
Use this projector to model how your email list could change over time. Enter your current list size, expected new subscribers and unsubscribe rate, then compare future scenarios. Results are projections based on the assumptions you enter. Actual subscriber behavior and acquisition performance may vary. Calculations run locally in your browser; inputs are not saved or sent to a service.
Project your email list over time.
Example: steady subscriber acquisition
With 1,000 starting subscribers, 200 new subscribers per month and 1% monthly unsubscribes, the list projects to approximately 1,564.32 subscribers after three months. Each month applies unsubscribes to that month’s beginning list before carrying the ending balance into the next month.
About this calculator
How the monthly projection works
Each month, the projector applies the entered acquisition and unsubscribe assumptions to the beginning list. The ending list becomes the next month’s starting point, so monthly changes compound.
- Simple monthly growth adds the same number of new subscribers each month, while unsubscribes are calculated from that month’s beginning list.
- Percentage growth adds new subscribers as a percentage of that month’s beginning list, then applies unsubscribes to the same beginning list.
- Improvement Comparison runs independent current and target projections from the same starting list.
- Overall growth percentages are N/A when the starting list is zero because percentage change from zero is undefined.
Use this as a planning projection
Email list growth depends on both acquisition and retention. Adding subscribers faster may have limited impact if unsubscribe rates are also high.
- This projector compounds monthly changes over time. Small differences in acquisition or unsubscribe rates can create larger differences over longer periods.
- An optional annual value per subscriber is an assumption you supply. Estimated list value is not guaranteed revenue.
- This is a planning projection, not a forecast guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
Why do subscriber projections use monthly compounding?
Unsubscribe losses are calculated from each month’s beginning subscriber count. In percentage-growth mode, new subscribers also depend on that month’s beginning list, so the ending balance carries into the next month.
What does monthly percentage growth mean?
It models the month’s gross new subscribers as a percentage of the list at the beginning of that month, before subtracting modeled unsubscribes.
Are my subscriber counts or projections saved?
No. Calculations run locally in this browser. The projector does not connect to email providers or import subscriber lists.
